Smart cities rely on the synergistic application of information and communication technologies to improve both the quality of government services and citizen welfare. Many real-life problems arise in modern smart cities related to efficient transportation systems, smart buildings, inhabitants inclusion, etc. Smart cities will well be a beneficiary of the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) providing solutions where traditional techniques fail. AI can make city services responsive, inclusive, transparent, and efficient. SCAI aims at discussing recent advances and exploring future directions on addressing the range of challenges arising from the transformation of our present cities into smarter ones by using AI.
